Cartagena, a stunning port city that exports much of the coffee produced in northern Colombia, will play host to Let’s Talk Coffee® 2018. 

VENUE AND HOTEL RESERVATIONS

Let’s Talk Coffee® will take place at the Intercontinental Cartagena, a 5-star luxury waterfront hotel in Cartagena’s upscale Bocagrande neighborhood. While lodging is not included in the Let’s Talk Coffee® registration price, attendees can book their rooms at the Intercontinental hotel at the following preferred rates:

  • $66 per night for a double room shared with one other Let’s Talk Coffee® attendee
  • $131 per night for a single, private room

Please note that if you register for Let’s Talk Cofffee® and book your hotel at the Intercontinental, all your meals during the event will be covered. Breakfast is included in your hotel reservation and lunch and dinner are included in your Let’s Talk Coffee® registration for the duration of the event.

Cartagena is Colombia’s fifth largest city and features world-class cuisine, must-see sites from the colonial era, white sand beaches, and museums filled with historic artifacts. The Intercontinental Cartagena Hotel is situated right on the beach and offers a roof-top pool, delicious food, modern rooms, and an ideal location just a short walk away from tourist sites and 15 minutes from the airport. Families are welcome to accompany Let’s Talk Coffee® attendees to Cartagena to enjoy the all the attractions it has to offer.

Let’s Talk Coffee® attendees should fly into Cartagena Rafael Núñez International Airport (CTG) on Wednesday, September 19. Departure times and airports vary depending on field trip participation. Please pay special attention to the time of day you may depart from the Huila and Q Processing field trips to ensure you do not miss your flight home. Attending the main event in Cartagena and the Huila field trip:

  • Arrive at Cartagena Rafael Núñez International Airport (CTG) on Wednesday, September 19, 2018
  • Depart Cartagena Rafael Núñez International Airport (CTG) and fly to Neiva Benito Salas Airport (NVA) on Sunday, September 23, 2018. We recommend taking flight Avianca AV9789 to Bogotá and connecting to flight Avianca AV9271 to Neiva. Please arrive in Neiva before 7:30 p.m. as a scheduled bus will leave the Neiva airport at 8 p.m. to transport participants to Garzón.
  • Depart Neiva Benito Salas Airport (NVA) on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 after 10 a.m. and fly to Bogotá El Dorado International Airport (BOG). We recommend taking flight Avianca AV9294.
  • Depart Bogotá El Dorado International Airport (BOG) on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 for your home. Please ensure that you have ample time to change planes in Bogotá—we recommend at least 3 hours of layover time to ensure you don’t miss your flight.

  • Depart Cartagena Rafael Núñez International Airport (CTG) and arrive in Cali Alfonso Bonilla Aragón International Airport (CLO) on Sunday, September 23, 2018. Please book direct flight Avianca 9503 so that the group can arrive together and board the scheduled bus transporting participants to Popayan.
  • Depart Cali Alfonso Bonilla Aragón International Airport (CLO) for your home after 10 a.m. on Sunday, September 30, 2018. The bus transporting attendees from Popayan to the Cali airport will arrive at the airport around 9 a.m., so we recommend booking a flight that leaves after 10 a.m. to ensure you don’t miss your flight.

To travel from the airport to the hotel and vice-versa in Cartagena, we recommend taking a taxi. It will cost about 25,000 pesos ($9.00 USD).

YELLOW FEVER VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS FOR TRAVEL TO COLOMBIA

Proof of yellow fever vaccination is required for all visitors to Colombia who are traveling to rural areas, including the field trip destinations of Santa Marta and Huila. Travelers from some countries are also required to show proof of yellow fever vaccination to enter Colombia, even if they will not travel to rural areas. Please review the information below to verify your requirements, taking into account whether you plan to attend a Let’s Talk Coffee® field trip or not:

  • For attendees traveling from the USA, Canada, or Europe: If you are attending a Let’s Talk Coffee® field trip, you are required to have proof of yellow fever vaccination. If you are only attending the main event in Cartagena and don’t plan to visit any rural areas in Colombia, proof of yellow fever vaccination is not required. For further health information, please see the Center for Disease Control’s website.
  • For attendees traveling from outside of the USA, Canada, or Europe: Proof of yellow fever vaccination is required if you are traveling to Colombia from a number of countries, including but not limited to Venezuela, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Panama, Guyana, Suriname, French Guyana, and any country in Africa. Please consult your local Colombian embassy or consulate about vaccination requirements specific to your country to ensure you are able to enter Colombia. If you are attending a Let’s Talk Coffee® field trip, you are required to have proof of yellow fever vaccination regardless of which country you are traveling from.

General information about Colombia

Voltage

Colombia uses the same 110-volt, 60HZ plugs as the United States and Canada, so no electrical adapter is necessary. However, because many electrical outlets in Colombia are two-prong, an adapter for three-prong appliances is recommended.

Currency

The currency in Colombia is the Colombian peso. The exchange rate with the U.S. dollar will vary but should be between 2,700 and 2,900 pesos to $1 U.S.

Weather

The October weather in Cartagena should be warm—likely in the high 70s and 80s Fahrenheit—but with a strong chance of rain.
